MedAustron Cancer Treatment and Research Center
The MedAustron Cancer Treatment and Research Center in Wiener Neustadt is unique in Austria. The special ion therapy enables individualized, high-precision, local cancer treatment. This makes MedAustron one of only six comparable centers worldwide. At MedAustron, therapy can be carried out with both protons and carbon ions. Proton therapy is a subgroup of radiotherapy. Alongside surgery and chemotherapy, it forms the third pillar of cancer treatment. The special feature of this therapy is that the radiation dose is concentrated on the area of the tumor due to the physical properties of protons. This means that the surrounding tissue is spared as much as possible. MedAustron also treats many children with brain tumors.
As an independently operating outpatient clinic, MedAustron is optimally networked with clinics, universities and research institutes - not only throughout Austria, but also internationally. MedAustron is also a teaching and research location of the Karl Landsteiner Private University for Health Sciences in the fields of radiation oncology and medical physics.
MedAustron's mission is to fight cancer: through advanced treatment of patients, clinical studies, applied and basic research and the transfer of know-how. A team of more than 250 employees strives to continuously improve the therapy method of ion therapy, to increase knowledge about its mode of action and to make the treatment accessible to more and more people.
The Ronald McDonald Kinderhilfe makes a valuable contribution to relieving the burden on affected families, both financially and emotionally. In close proximity to the center, it offers a place to gather strength and recover.

“We are delighted that the Ronald McDonald Children's House has enriched our neighborhood! The first family moved in as soon as it opened and felt completely comfortable and secure. The children's house offers a temporary home for up to four families at a time, which is very valuable during therapy at MedAustron. This cooperation enables us to further improve the standard of care for our patients.”
